Johanna Monschein

Johanna Monschein (born December 16, 1907 in Vienna ; † May 14, 1997 ibid) was an Austrian diplomat and children's book researcher .

Life

Johanna Mondschein received his doctorate in 1932 after studying at the University of Vienna to Dr. jur. She was in the Austrian diplomatic service from 1952, and from 1959 as the first extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador. From 1965 to 1968 she served as ambassador to Brussels. She retired in 1973. Monschein collected children's books. After her retirement, she devoted herself to research. She conceived the major exhibition of the Austrian National Library, “European Children's Books from the 15th to the 19th Century ”, shown in 1979 . In 1994 she also published the children's book collection owned by Emperor Franz I in the volume “Children's and Young People's Books of Enlightenment ”. Monschein is considered to be the founder of historical children's book research in Austria .
