Johanna Sacco née Richard, called Madame Sacco (born November 16, 1754 in Prague , † December 21, 1802 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actress and dancer .

Life

Johanna Richard was born in Prague in 1754 and, after the death of her parents, appeared for the first time as the foster child of the Koppe actors and actresses in 1761. In Hamburg she was a member of the Ackermann Society for a few months in 1771 and was instructed in acting and dance by Friedrich Ludwig Schröder . In 1773 she returned to the Ackermann Society after marrying the ballet master Sacco.

After the Sacco couple moved to Vienna, she made her debut on July 10, 1776 in the role of Eugenie in the Beaumarchais comedy of the same name . Her greatest success was the leading role in the tragedy Medea by Johann Jacob Engel and Friedrich Wilhelm Gotter . Johanna Sacco was popular in all classes of Viennese society. She was sponsored, among others, by Emperor Joseph II , who helped furnish her apartment and repeatedly supported Madame Sacco financially.

In 1793 Johanna Sacco ended her career at the Burgtheater . She died in Vienna in 1802.
