Johannes Bach (born August 7, 1808 in Saanen ; † June 15, 1866 ibid) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1851 to 1857 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Bach was the son of a teacher. From 1832 to 1840 he was a court clerk and notary public in Saanen. From 1838, Bach studied law at the University of Bern . After graduating, he worked as the court president of the Saanen district court from 1841 . He served as governor in three different districts : from 1842 to 1844 in the Saanen district , in 1845 in the Schwarzenburg district and from 1846 in the Konolfingen district . When the Conservatives came to power in 1850, they deposed him as governor, whereupon he worked again as an official notary.

Bach represented radical liberal views . In 1839 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern , of which he was a member until 1846. In 1846 he was a member of the Constitutional Council . In 1847 he commanded the Landwehr in Obersimmental during the Sonderbund War . Bach ran for the National Council elections in 1851 and was elected in the Emmental constituency. In parliament he stood up for the state welfare of the poor, in 1857 he resigned.
