Johannes Bockenrod
Johannes Bockenrod (* approx. 1488 ; † approx. 1536 ) was a German poet and theologian . He was not a very well-known humanist , but an important humanist for late medieval diocese historiography .
His date of birth can no longer be determined, as most of the city archive perished when his hometown Worms was destroyed in 1689 . The place of his training is also unknown. A stay in Cologne from 1513 to 1517 is definitely documented.
N. Fickermann published figure poems and the only letter so far that can be ascribed to Bockenrod. Most of Bockenrod's works have survived unprinted in two identical manuscripts. One of them is in the Bavarian State Library in Munich, the other in the Bavarian State Archives in Würzburg .
Thanks to two “forewords” that are in the manuscripts, we not only learn what intentions he was guided by when drafting his diocese catalogs, but also from contemporary contributors and historians, including Wilhelm Werner von Zimmer and the well-known cathedral dean Lorenz Count Truchseß von Pommersfelden . Helmut Flachenecker refers to Johannes Bockenrod, “who acted as an assessor at the Reich Chamber Court at the end of the 1530s” (p. 194). But he does not name a source for this statement.
Bockenrod has also achieved a lot in the field of music (Cologne was a center of musicology in its time, so that one can speak of a "Cologne school"). As a poetic form, Bockenrod preferred the ode, whereby the influence of Celtis is unmistakable, At his suggestion and under his scientific guidance, compositions were created on the 19 odes and epodes of Horace .
