Johannes Hoeffel ( French Jean Hoeffel ; born March 5, 1850 in Altweiler ; † November 15, 1939 in Buchsweiler ) was a physician, mayor of Buchsweiler and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Hoeffel attended the Protestant grammar school in Strasbourg and from 1867 to 1872 the medical faculty in Strasbourg. After obtaining his license to practice medicine on August 30, 1872, he worked briefly as an assistant doctor in the Strasbourg civil hospital and was a miner's doctor from 1872 to 1873 in Ars an der Mosel , since 1873 as a general practitioner in Buchsweiler and since 1888 also a district doctor in the Zabern district .

Between 1884 and 1918 he was mayor of Buchsweiler and from 1885 to 1918 a member of the senior consistory of the Augsburg Confession . For the canton Buchsweiler he was a member of the district assembly of Lower Alsace from 1888 to 1897 . He was also a member of the State Committee from 1892 (and until 1911) and a member of the State Council from 1898 . From 1911 to 1918 he was a member of the first chamber of the Landtag of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine , appointed by the Kaiser . After Back's death he was elected President of the First Chamber.

From 1890 to 1918 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency Reichsland Elsaß-Lothringen 11 ( Zabern ) and the German Reich Party .

In the Reichstag election of 1907 , in the first round of voting, he clearly prevailed with 9,469 votes against the liberal Alfred Wolf (5,638 votes) as well as the metal worker Schulenburg (2,240 votes) and the lawyer Stieve (6,82 votes).

Hoeffel was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with the loop .
