Johannes Kühn (born January 24, 1887 in Bogschütz , Silesia ; † February 24, 1973 in Heidelberg ) was a German historian .

Life

Johannes Kühn was 1911 at the University of Leipzig with a thesis on the story of the agrarian doctorate . During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Leipzig . After working as a research assistant and his military service in World War I, he was at the University of Leipzig in 1923 habilitation . He became a private lecturer and in 1927 an associate professor there.

From 1928 to 1945 he was a full professor of history at the Technical University of Dresden . His main research interests were the history of the early modern period, in particular the Holy Roman Empire in the 16th century, as well as the intellectual and cultural history of Protestantism . He was a collaborator of the German Reichstag files from the time of Emperor Charles V. He served himself - for a time - to the Nazi dictatorship by submitting his historiography to the Nazi language. He described Friedrich II as "a Nordic-Germanic person". A compilation of his lectures On the Meaning of the Present War (1940) in the series Writings on Geopolitics (Volume 18) reads similarly . Since 1943 he was a full and since 1949 corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences .

In 1947 he became a full professor of history at the University of Leipzig. From 1949 to 1955 he was a full professor of modern history at the University of Heidelberg , where he was also the doctoral supervisor of Horst Boog , Dieter Groh and Reinhart Koselleck .
