Johannes Künzel (singer)

Johannes Künzel (born December 10, 1931 in Steinach ; † June 22, 2008 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German song and oratorio singer ( bass baritone ) and singing teacher .

Life

Künzel initially studied theology from 1951 at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , where Karl Heussi , Rudolf Meyer and Hanna Jursch were among his teachers. In the 1950s he was discovered as a singer by Gerhard Unger in the Jena Bach Choir. After passing the entrance exam, he studied singing with Kurt Wichmann and Charlotte Weiland from 1953 to 1957 at the Liszt School of Music Weimar .

As a singer he performed a. a. at the Bach, Schütz, Handel, Telemann and Schumann festivals of the GDR. Finally he was appointed chamber singer .

In 1964 he began his work at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . He also worked at the Institute for Music Education at the Humboldt University in Berlin , the Evangelical University for Church Music in Halle and the Weimar Academy of Music. At the beginning of the 1990s he became a lecturer and in 1994 professor for artistic solo singing. From 1991 to 1995 he was director of the Institute for Music Education in the Department of Art and Classical Studies. After retirement in 1997, he was the first for two years chairman of the Association pro musica eV, and later honorary member.

Künzel was married and had one son.
