Johannes Kneyl

Johannes Kneyl († April 11, 1716 in Itzehoe ) was a Danish lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

Kneyl was of German origin and died a widower. No further information is known about his family circumstances.

career

Kneyl entered Danish military service in 1691 and was regimental quartermaster in the cavalry regiment commanded by Carl Rudolf von Württemberg . In 1697 he had the character of a Rittmeister . After holding positions in different regiments, he was promoted to adjutant general in 1699 and colonel in 1701 . He took an active part in the War of the Spanish Succession .

Kneyl took over on February 13, 1714 as chief of the Baudissin cavalry regiment . In the same year he received his promotion to major general.

Kneyl took part in the siege of Stralsund in 1715 during the Pomeranian campaign in the Great Northern War , but died during the campaign in the winter quarters in Itzehoe.
