Johannes Lehne

Johannes Lehne (born January 22, 1962 ) is a German diplomat who was German ambassador to South Sudan between 2015 and 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1981, Lehne began studying law at the University of Passau , which he completed in 1987 with the first state examination in law. In the meantime, from 1984 to 1985, he studied abroad at University College Cardiff and, after completing his legal clerkship in 1990, passed the second state examination in law. During his studies he was involved in the FDP in Passau .

In 1990 Lehne began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and after completing it was employed in the headquarters of the Foreign Office and at various missions abroad . Between 1999 and 2002 he was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Sudan and, after a renewed assignment in the Foreign Office, he was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador in Bolivia from 2005 to 2008 , before becoming Head of the Task Force Sudan / South Sudan at the Foreign Office in Berlin between 2008 and 2015.

In 2015 Lehne succeeded David Schwake as ambassador to South Sudan . On August 12, 2015, he was received by the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit , to present his credentials. In 2017 he was replaced by Jan Hendrik van Thiel . As of January 2019, he is the head of the budget head office of the Foreign Office's cultural department.

Since 1982 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Oeno-Danubia Passau in the CV .
