David Schwake

David Schwake (* 1970 in Göttingen ) is a German diplomat who was ambassador to South Sudan between 2013 and 2015 .

Life

Schwake completed his school education from 1976 to 1980 at the elementary school in Wennigsen (Deister) and between 1980 and 1989 at the Matthias-Claudius-Gymnasium Gehrden and most recently at the Gymnasium in Michelstadt , which he finished with the Abitur. After completing his military service in the German Armed Forces in Homberg (Efze) , he began studying German and political science at the Philipps University in Marburg in 1990 and was accepted as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation in 1991, which led him to study abroad at the university between 1992 and 1993 Paris IV made it possible. In 1993 he continued his studies of German and political science at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , where he passed the state examination in 1996. He then completed postgraduate studies in European Studies at Washington University in St. Louis between 1996 and 1997 , which he completed in 1997 with a Master of Arts (MA European Studies). During this time he was also a research assistant at Washington University in St. Louis.

In 1998 Schwake began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and after its graduation worked as a cultural, press and consular officer at the embassy in Vietnam between 2000 and 2003 and then from 2003 to 2006 as a consultant for the Africa Forum in Department 2 - Abroad - the Office of the Federal President . After working as an exchange officer at the US State Department in Washington, DC between 2006 and 2007 , two brief assignments followed in 2007 as Chargé d'affaires ad interim at the embassy in Haiti and Chargé d'affaires ad interim at the embassy in Liberia .

After that came Schwake 2007 to Washington, DC, back to where it until 2009 Counselor in the Political Section of the Embassy in the United States was working. He then acted as permanent representative of the ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 2009 and 2011 and as deputy head of the North America division at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin from 2011 to 2013 .

In August 2013, Schwake succeeded Peter Felten as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in South Sudan . On August 7, 2013, he was received by the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit , to present his credentials. He remained in this post for two years and was replaced in August 2015 by Johannes Lehne , who handed over his credentials to President Mayardit on August 12, 2015.
