Johannes Lotichius

Johannes Lotichius (also: Lütke ; * February 13, 1576 in Lamspringe ; † March 25, 1650 in Helmstedt ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

The son of the mayor Joachim Lütke († 1590) and his wife Margaretha Dingeler attended the school where he was born until he was fourteen. In 1590 he was trained at the school in Schöningen and in 1595 in Wolfenbüttel . On May 29, 1598 he moved to the University of Helmstedt , where he initially studied philosophy with Cornelius Martini and then began studying law with Andreas Cludius . In 1610 he became secretary at the university, in 1612 associate professor at the law faculty. On August 20, 1615 he received his doctorate in law.

On May 7, 1617 he became a full professor of the institutes; on September 30, 1637, he was given the professorship of the Pandects and in the last years of his life the professorship of the Codex. He was also a councilor to Johann Georg von Anhalt in 1616 and counselor to Duke Frantz of Saxony in 1619. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Helmstedt University and was three times vice-rector of the Alma Mater.

From his marriage on June 9, 1616 in Wolfenbüttel to Magaretha (born September 22, 1597 in Wolfenbüttel, † February 24, 1664 in Helmstedt), a daughter of the princely Brunswick-Lüneburg house marshal Heinrich Mehrdorf (Meerdorff, d. 1628) and his Mrs. Margarethe Lützenhof (died 1627), had six sons and one daughter.
