Johannes Maybaum

Johannes Maybaum (born June 24, 1864 in Crivitz , Mecklenburg-Schwerin , † July 6, 1932 ) was a German high school teacher , classical philologist and numismatist .

Maybaum, son of a carpenter, studied after attending grammar school in Schwerin from 1882 at the universities of Berlin, Halle, Tübingen and Rostock classical philology and German and received his doctorate in Rostock in 1889. After the probationary year 1888/89 at the grammar school in Schwerin, he worked as a teacher at grammar schools in Neubrandenburg (1891-1893), Oeynhausen (1893-94), at the Friderico-Francisceum Doberan (1894-1903) and Schwerin. In 1898/99 he received half a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute for high school teachers. In Schwerin he became a state school councilor and later a ministerial councilor in the Ministry of Education. He was also responsible for looking after the museum's coin cabinet in Schwerin and published on the numismatics of Mecklenburg.

Johannes Maybaum's son was the historian Heinz Maybaum .
