Heinz Maybaum

Heinrich Johannes Friedrich August Maybaum (born February 19, 1896 in Bad Doberan , † February 25, 1955 in Flensburg ) was a German historian .

Life

After graduating from high school in Schwerin in 1914, he studied German and history in Tübingen , Munich from 1914 to 1924 and in Rostock from autumn 1921 . From 1914 to 1920 he took part in the First World War as a war volunteer , French prisoner of war. In 1924 he passed the state examination , doctorate and teaching exams at the University of Rostock . From 1924 to 1927 he was a student trainee , from 1926 a teacher at the large city school in Rostock . From 1927 to 1934 he was curator at the Museum of Hamburg History . After his habilitation in Hamburg in 1934, he taught from 1934 to 1936 as a private lecturer in medieval and modern history at the University of Hamburg . From 1934 to 1945 he held a substitute chair, from 1935 professor, in 1938 he was appointed full professor for Medieval and Modern History at the instigation of the Nazi student union against the recommendation of the faculty at the University of Rostock. In 1945 he fled Rostock and was released from the University of Rostock. From 1945 to 1950 he worked as a German teacher and book author in Flensburg.
