Johannes Meyer the Younger
Johannes Meyer (born June 11, 1655 in Zurich ; † September 1, 1712 there ) was a Swiss draftsman , painter , engraver and etcher .
Career
Johannes Meyer was a member of the Zurich artist family Meyer, son and pupil of the painter and etcher Conrad Meyer (born October 3, 1618 in Zurich; † January 15, 1689 ibid) and nephew of the painter and etcher Rudolf Meyer (born June 12, 1605 in Zurich ; † August 15, 1638 ibid). Johannes Meyer pricked and etched mainly military and biblical scenes, vedutas , New Year's sheets and allegorical depictions of months and seasons . In addition, he created portraits of contemporary personalities as well as copperplate engravings for the German Academie of Noble Building, Image and Mahlerey Arts of Joachim von Sandrart, which was created between 1675 and 1679 . One of his main works is a map of the canton of Zurich, engraved after Hans Conrad Gyger in 1685. He also worked as a portrait painter.
