Czech Marusarzówna Memorial 1. (1946, 1947, 1950)

Stefan Jerzy Dziedzic (born October 15, 1927 in Zakopane ; † July 30, 2006 ibid) was a Polish Nordic and Alpine skier . He was a member of the Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza and from 1980 to 1985 a member of the Sejm, which was powerless in the People's Republic of Poland .

Career

Dziedzic began skiing after the Second World War and quickly turned out to be one of the most diverse skiers in Poland. At the age of 18 he was Polish runner-up in both Nordic combined and 18 km cross-country skiing. A few weeks later in March it won the overall ranking of the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial in Zakopane at the first edition . Results from ski jumping, cross-country skiing, slalom and downhill were included in the evaluation. In the following years he presented himself in outstanding form at the Memorial and won the overall ranking three times, twice the 18 km cross-country skiing and once the competition in the alpine combination. In the course of his career, he also won the championship title in Nordic combined, cross-country skiing and downhill and alpine combined at the Polish championships.

With these national successes behind him, Dziedzic was nominated for the Polish delegation for the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , Switzerland , and competed in the Nordic disciplines. In the Nordic Combined he was twentieth, whereas in cross-country skiing over the short distance he was only 38th. Together with Józef Daniel Krzeptowski , Stanisław Bukowski and Tadeusz Kwapień , he took tenth place in the 4 × 10 km relay. Due to a heart muscle injury , among other things , he was advised against Nordic skiing in 1949, so he switched to alpine skiing. Since he was also one of the national leaders here, he also took part in the 1952 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . He achieved his best result in 29th in the downhill.

As a graduate of the Cracow University of Economics , from which he received a master's degree in economics in 1963, he was eligible to participate in the World Academic Winter Games. When he first participated in Davos in 1947 , he was able to win a title in 4 × 8 km cross-country skiing together with the relay, before two years later in Špindlerův Mlýn he won, among other things, the Nordic Combined competition in individual competitions. Between 1947 and 1953 he won a total of twelve medals at the forerunner of the Universiade, including six gold medals.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1956 , Dziedzic was no longer an active athlete, but traveled to Cortina d'Ampezzo as a trainer for the Polish ski racers . He was also part of the Polish delegation as a trainer at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck .

Between April 2, 1980 and July 31, 1985 Dziedzic represented the 43rd district in Nowy Sącz in the Polish Parliament. In the Sejm he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Trade. He was part of the Marxist-Leninist faction of the Polish United Workers Party . He was previously politically active in the party's city committee in Zakopane .

After his death in 2006 he was buried in the New Cemetery in Zakopane .
