Johannes Perkmann OSB (born June 9, 1968 in Salzburg - Maxglan ) is abbot of the Benedictine Abbey Michaelbeuern and Abbot President of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation .

Life

Perkmann studied theology at the University of Salzburg and social pedagogy in Benediktbeuern. In 1986 he became a novice at Michaelbeuern Abbey, where he was ordained a priest by the then Archbishop of Salzburg, Georg Eder . He then worked in the monastery-owned secondary school as a religion teacher and educator.

On July 24, 2006, he was the Convention elected the Salzburg Benedictine Michaelbeuern abbot and archbishop on October 1, Alois Kothgasser benediziert . His motto Cum Gaudio Sancti Spiritus (“With the joy of the Holy Spirit”) comes from the Regula Benedicti (RB 49.6). In 2012, Father Johannes was named among the possible candidates who could succeed Kothgasser as Archbishop of Salzburg. Archbishop Kothgasser appointed Abbot Johannes as consistorial councilor on June 29, 2013. On October 25, 2017 he was elected Abbot President by the General Chapter of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation as the successor to Christian Haidinger .
