Johannes Ringel (bank manager)

Johannes Ringel (born July 19, 1941 in Breslau ) was a German bank manager. From July 2 to December 31, 2003, he was CEO of WestLB AG .

Career

Ringel studied in Munich and Münster Economics and received his doctorate in 1969 at the Law and Political Science Faculty of the University of Muenster . His dissertation is entitled Monetary Theory Approaches in the Light of Modern Philosophy of Science.

Since its founding in 1969, Ringel has worked in various functions at WestLB (then still Westdeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale). From 1987 to 2003 he was a member of the bank's board of directors . On July 2, 2003, he succeeded Jürgen Sengera, who had resigned due to the Boxclever scandal, as Chairman of the Board of Management of WestLB. When he was appointed at the age of almost 62, he was only considered a transition candidate while looking for a new long-term CEO. His successor was Thomas R. Fischer on January 1, 2004 .
