Johannes Schmidt (politician, 1902)

Johannes Schmidt (born July 31, 1902 in Bockhorn near Varel , † November 6, 1977 in Oldenburg ) was a German pastor and politician .

Life

Schmidt was the son of Pastor Diedrich Schmidt and Ida Marie Henrike geb. Breier. He attended the Alte Gymnasium in Oldenburg and studied Protestant theology in Berlin and Heidelberg from 1921 to 1925 . Schmidt received his doctorate on July 29, 1925 with a thesis on the resurrection hope in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD . In 1925 he passed his first theological examination and in 1926 was appointed provisional assistant preacher. In 1927 he was briefly Synodalvikar in the Free State of Oldenburg related part of the country Birkenfeld . In November 1927 he came to Ohmstede as an assistant preacher . After he had passed his second theological examination on May 6, 1929, he was on June 2, 1929 ordained . Since November 16, 1929, Schmidt was vacant preacher at the Holy Cross Church in Bardewisch . In the following year he was then pastor of the parish and on May 9, 1930 he was introduced to this office. In 1932 he moved to Wiefelstede , where it was introduced on July 17, 1932.

Schmidt was initially a supporter of National Socialism and was also a member of the SA . In 1933 he changed his mind and was expelled from the SA. Instead, he now worked in his parish in Wiefelstede and especially in the parish council in the interests of the Confessing Church .

Until its convocation for military service in 1940 Schmidt Member of the Presidium of Oldenburg was Confessing Synod dealt in it with theological questions. He returned to his home parish on September 13, 1945. On October 1, 1946, he was appointed first pastor of Varel and introduced here on May 25, 1947.

As a member of the FDP , he was a member of the Appointed Landtag of Oldenburg from the first session on January 30, 1946 to the last on November 6, 1946 .

From January 1, 1948, Schmidt was a member of the Oberkirchenrat of the Evangelical Church in Oldenburg, representing Heinz Kloppenburg . On November 25, 1949, he was elected a full-time theological member of this council by the regional synod and was given the title of Oberkirchenrat . The focus of his work here was the theological training of pastors and the relationship between church and schools. Schmidt retired on July 1, 1971. On July 29, 1975, he was honored by the 50-year renewal of his doctorate by the theological faculty of Heidelberg University.

On June 11, 1930 Schmidt married Ingeborg geb. Rüder (* 1909). The marriage had three children, two of whom became pastors.
