Johannes Seidl (born February 17, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian. His main research interests are the history of science and universities. Seidl is married to Christine Seidl-Danek.

School and study

Seidl attended elementary school and the Vienna XV Realgymnasium in Vienna, where he passed his matriculation examination in 1973. He then studied history and Romance philology at the University of Vienna and completed his studies in 1985 with the teaching examination for grammar schools and in 1996 with a doctorate. From 1983 to 1986 he took part in the training course of the Institute for Austrian Historical Research, which he completed with the state examination; 1999 MAS.

Professional and academic career

From 1987 to 1997, Seidl was in charge of the archive of the market town of Perchtoldsdorf. He then moved to the "Institute Austrian Biographical Lexicon and Biographical Documentation" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, where he worked as a scientific editor for the fields of natural sciences and medicine. In 2001 he joined the archives of the University of Vienna , where he was appointed deputy director in 2010. In the same year, Seidl received his habilitation as lecturer for the history of science at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . In addition to Thomas Maisel and Kurt Mühlberger, Johannes Seidl has been the editor of the series “ Writings from the Archives of the University of Vienna ”, which is dedicated to the publication of university and scientific history topics. In addition, he is co-editor of the annual conference volumes of the Austrian working group “History of Earth Sciences” at the Austrian Geological Society and the magazine “Mensch-Wissenschaft-Magie. Communications from the Austrian Society for the History of Science ”.
