Thomas Ebendorfer
Thomas Ebendorfer , called Thomas von Haselbach (born August 10, 1388 in Haselbach near Stockerau, Duchy of Austria ; † January 12, 1464 in Vienna ) was an Austrian theologian , university professor and historian .
Life
Ebendorfer was a member of the Vienna School of Pastoral Theology . He studied at the theological faculty of the University of Vienna , where he was a student of Nikolaus von Dinkelsbühl and gave the funeral oration for his teacher, which is still preserved today . Ebendorfer was presumably ordained a priest around 1421 . In 1428 he received his doctorate in theology.
Ebendorfer took part in the Council of Basel as envoy from the University of Vienna and became the leading theologian of conciliarism . In 1435, however, he had to leave the council because the financing of his stay was no longer guaranteed. In 1435 he was appointed pastor in Perchtoldsdorf near Vienna. Then Ebendorfer was as envoy of Frederick III. active (until 1458 ). Afterwards he moved more away from the Council Party.
Ebendorfer was dean and rector at the University of Vienna several times . He was considered an expert on the Hussite question and was involved in various negotiations on this question. He is also said to have participated in several Reichstag .
His chronicles, such as the Cronica Austriae of 1463, are important sources for historiography. Among other things, it is the only Christian source that reports in detail on the events of the Viennese Gesera (expulsion and burning of Jews).
Thomas Ebendorfer died in Vienna in 1464 at the age of 75. He found his final resting place in the parish church of Perchtoldsdorf , which under him received the addition of the three-aisled nave from 1435.
The Ebendorferstrasse in Vienna-Innere Stadt was named after him in 1873 , just like in Perchtoldsdorf.
