Johannes Sperlette

Johannes Sperlette , also Johann Sperlette (born November 29, 1661 in Mouzon , Champagne , † February 5, 1725 in Halle ) was a French philosopher.

Life

When he was nine, Sperlette attended the Sedan Academy , where he completed four years of basic philosophical subjects such as Greek, Latin, rhetoric and others. He switched to the academy in Reims , where he devoted himself particularly to the study of philosophy and mathematics. At the age of 17 he earned his degree in philosophy and began to study theology.

Although he was Reformed , he went to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Arnulf in Metz . After the Edict of Nantes was repealed , he fled to Holland because of the persecution of the Reformed . At the University of Leiden , with the support of Friedrich Spanheim and Jacob Trigland the Younger, he found a job with Baron Ezechiel Spanheim . He called him to Berlin in 1689 , where he became director of the French grammar school and grammar school professor of philosophy.

On March 30, 1695 Sperlette became professor of philosophy at the University of Halle , in 1705 royal Prussian councilor and director of the French colony of the Halle alma mater. Sperlette studied René Descartes in detail . In his lectures he dealt with logic, mathematics and metaphysics. He was also Vice-Rector of the Halle Academy in 1704 and 1714 .

Sperlette had married Susanne, the sister of the French pastor in Halle, Alexander Coullez. From this marriage a daughter and two sons were born. The son Bartholomäus Johannes Sperlette became court master of the Princes of Anhalt in Dessau and received his doctorate in law in 1719 and professor of law in 1720 at the University of Halle. However, in 1725/26 he left Halle because disagreements had arisen.
