Johannes Strasser (born June 13, 1982 in Dachau , Bavaria ) is a German basketball coach and former player. He played in the National Basketball League on the position of the building player .

Career

player

Strasser played for TSV Dachau in his hometown and between 1999 and 2001 for the second division Rhöndorf.

From 2001 to 2007, the 1.89 m tall Strasser was part of the RheinEnergie Köln squad (since 2007: Köln 99ers ) and won the German championship with the club in 2006. He was the only one left from the original squad of the first first division season in which REK - at that time still under Svetislav Pesic - was runner-up.

At the beginning of the 2007/08 season, Strasser then switched to Telekom Baskets Bonn , where he had a contract until the end of the 2008/2009 season. In July 2009 Strasser extended his contract in Bonn until the end of the 2009/2010 season. After this season he signed a one-year contract with Artland Dragons. For the 2011/2012 season he extended his contract with the Artland Dragons. Strasser played for the Artland Dragons until the summer of 2013.

After a coach change to Tyron McCoy , Strasser left the club after three years. Strasser then returned to the Rhineland and joined the RheinStars Cologne from the 2nd Regionalliga West. There he wanted to help that the successors of the Cologne 99ers will be back in professional basketball in a few years. With the RheinStars Strasser succeeded in direct promotion to the 1st regional league. During the summer break of 2014, Strasser announced the end of his career due to persistent knee problems.

Trainer

Strasser was then further integrated into the club and from the 2014/2015 season worked as an assistant coach for RheinStars Cologne and was also involved in the management of the club. On December 9, 2014, the club announced the resignation of head coach Mario Kyriasoglou and Strasser took over his post. In this function he managed to win the championship title in the Regionalliga West in the same season. He then resigned from office to devote himself to his studies.

From November 2016 Strasser was employed full-time in the RheinStars office and managed the school project of the Cologne association. In March 2017, after Arne Woltmann's dismissal, he became the assistant to his successor Matt Dodson until the end of the season . After Cologne's relegation to the Regionalliga in 2019, Strasser again took over the position of head coach at the RheinStars.
