Johannes Uthoff

Johannes Uthoff (born November 19, 1930 in Düsseldorf ; † June 18, 2018 ) was a German geodesist . From August 1, 1971 to December 31, 1982, he was the founding rector of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences .

Life

Johannes Uthoff studied geodesy at the Technical University of Braunschweig and at the Technical University of Hanover and entered the civil service. From 1956 he worked in the Lower Saxony land registry administration.

In 1963 he became a lecturer in surveying at the State Building School in Frankfurt am Main, after being renamed in 1965 at the State Engineering School for Building and Surveying. In 1971 he was appointed by the Hessian minister of education, Ludwig von Friedeburg, as the commissioned rector for the founding phase of the new Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. In 1972, Uthoff was elected the first rector of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. In 1982 he handed over his office to Rolf Kessler and worked as professor, dean (1985–1992) and vice dean (1992–1994) at the surveying department. In 1994 he retired.

Uthoff was one of the founders of the “Rectors' Conference of the Hessian Universities of Applied Sciences” (today: Universities of Applied Sciences Hesse (HAW Hessen) ), an association of state universities in Hesse.
