Johannes Willi

Johannes Willi (born June 20, 1882 in Rehetobel ; † September 24, 1952 in Gais ; legal resident in Gais) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Willi was a son of Johannes Willi, teacher and community clerk, and Bertha Rohner. In 1907 he married Johanna Walser, daughter of Johann Ulrich Walser, co-founder of an embroidery factory, farmer and community Captain . He entered into a second marriage in 1918 with Anna Kern, daughter of Johannes Kern, his business partner. From 1896 to 1899 he attended the Trogen Cantonal School . From 1899 to 1902 he completed a commercial apprenticeship at the Willi, Kern & Eisenhut embroidery company in Gais. From 1900 this company was called Eisenhut & Compagnie. Between 1902 and 1906 he continued his education in Manchester and Paris . In 1906 he became a partner in the company Kern & Willi, embroidery manufacture and export in Gais. Willi ran this company from 1924 under the name Johannes Willi & Compagnie together with his wife. In addition, from 1926 Willi was an authorized signatory in the embroidery company Kern & Compagnie in Gais, which his mother-in-law ran. In 1949 this went on in his business. From 1909 to 1913 he was a councilor for Gais and from 1913 to 1921 he was the mayor . From 1919 to 1929 and from 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the Ausserrhoder Cantonal Council . From 1929 to 1948 he held the office of government council in the building and agriculture department. From 1931 to 1938 Willi presided over the cantonal Free Democratic Party and from 1920 to 1950 the industrial association Gais. In addition, from 1920 he was a board member of the St. Gallen-Gais-Appenzell tram and president of the conference of cantonal agricultural directors.
