Johannes Zülle (born December 29, 1841 in Schwellbrunn AR ; † March 17, 1938 in Herisau ; entitled to live in Schwellbrunn and from 1929 in Herisau) was a Swiss painter, draftsman, saddler and representative of Senntummalerei from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Zülle was a son of Hans Ulrich Zülle, Ruchwercher , day laborer for heavy work, and Anna Barbara Schoch. Working as a weaver, at the age of 30 he met the peasant painter Johannes Müller , who had a strong influence on his work. Weaving remained the main occupation for Zülle until 1908. The painting offered an additional income. In addition, he traded in senntums bells and manufactured belt ornaments. His earliest known picture is an alpine ride from 1872. Later he continued the basic patterns taken over from Müller until they were perfected. Zulle's role model also had an impact on countless epigones and souvenir painters at the beginning of the 21st century .
