Johannes Müller - he worked on behalf of wealthy farmers - began his artistic career as a furniture painter. As a result, Muller moved to the painting of portraits and of Eimerbödeli - a round painting on the bottom of the bucket driving or Melkeimers that from Senn is supported by the handle on the left shoulder. Müller's first known Eimerbödeli dates from 1832 and was made for a certain Martin Weiss. In addition, Johannes Müller painted views of prominent buildings such as the Rossfall inn as well as numerous alpine images - in which scenes of the festive alpine lift in May are depicted. He created his first autographed Alpfahrt picture with the "Alp Wendbläss" in 1859.

Johannes Müller - he is considered the Nestor of Appenzell Poya or Senntumsmalerei  - shaped the genre with his accurate arrangement of animals, people and houses in the peculiarly staggered landscape. He was the teacher of Anna Barbara Giezendanner and Johannes Zülle , whom he significantly influenced. Müller's works can be viewed in the permanent exhibition on Senntumsmalerei in the Appenzell Folklore Museum in Stein AR .

His works can be found in the following museums: Museum Appenzell , Museum of Cultures Basel , History and Ethnology Museum St. Gallen , Art Museum St. Gallen , Appenzeller Folklore Museum Stein AR , Appenzell Museum of Customs Urnäsch .
