Robert Wildhaber

Robert Wildhaber (born August 3, 1902 in Walenstadt , † July 16, 1982 in Basel ) was a Swiss folklorist .

Life

Robert Wildhaber, son of a printer, studied German , English and Italian at the universities of Basel , Zurich and Heidelberg . He received his doctorate in 1928 at the University of Basel with a work on the Zurich playwright Jakob Ruf . From 1930 to 1961 Wildhaber worked as a high school teacher at the Realgymnasium Basel , later at the Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliches Gymnasium Basel . From 1946 to 1968 he headed the Swiss Museum of Folklore in Basel.

From 1947 to 1974, Wildhaber succeeded Eduard Hoffmann-Krayer as editor of the International Folklore Bibliography . He was editor of the journals Swiss Archive for Folklore (1950–82) and Swiss Folklore (1944–68).

In 1968 the University of Basel awarded him an honorary doctorate .

Robert Wildhaber was born in 1932 with Gertrud Mathilda. Füglistaller married; the international lawyer Luzius Wildhaber (1937–2020) was their son.
