Johannes von Lupfen , also Johann von Lupfen or Johann IV. Landgrave von Lupfen-Stühlingen , (born February 19, 1487 in Stühlingen ; † May 8, 1551 in Engen ) was Prince-Bishop of Constance from 1532 to 1538.

Johannes von Lupfen came from the Swabian noble family of the Counts of Lupfen . He was the son of Heinrich III. Landgrave von Stühlingen Herr zu Hewen & Engen and Helena Countess Rappoltstein-Hohenack-Geroldseck .

Life

From 1503 he was a canon at the Constance Cathedral . Around 1522 he was cathedral curator , from 1528 provost of St. Stephan in Konstanz.

On February 3, 1532, Johann von Lupfen was elected bishop of Constance against the king's candidate, Canon Georg Sigmund von Hohenems, in the parish church of Überlingen . In this office he succeeded Hugo von Hohenlandenberg, who was acting provisionally after the death of Balthasar Merklin .

He resigned from his office on June 17, 1537 and moved to his home in Engen . From 1548 to 1550 he was again provost of St. Stephan in Constance. He was buried in the Engener parish church.
