The Johannisfriedhof in the Schweinsdorf district of Freital is located on Wartburgstrasse on the border with Deuben . Graves

Memorial stele to the Nazi forced laborers

After the Second World War , a grove of honor was built in Freital in 1949 for 315 victims of Nazi forced labor , most of whom were Soviet citizens. The individual grave marks were replaced after 2000 by a total of nine triangular steles. These are located along the northern and western borders of the cemetery and identify 168 victims. There is also another mass grave for slave labor on the opposite side.

In addition, one on the 29 June 1996 is place of youth capped memorial stone in honor of the victims of war, flight and expulsion since 2005 in the cemetery.

The Eger family, who owned Deubener Egermühle from 1876 to 1954 , had a grave at the Johannisfriedhof.

The Johanniskapelle was built in 1901 and 1902 based on designs by the Dresden architect Richard Friedrich Reuter . The neo-Romanesque building is a cross-shaped central building with an octagonal tower in the middle. The dome reaches a height of about 30 meters, is supported by four columns, but is separated by a false ceiling for safety reasons. On the north and south sides there is a large rose window designed by the Dresden painter Paul Rößler , it shows, among other things, Noah's Ark .

In the apse is the sculpture "Christ and John the Baptist" made of French limestone, created by Heinrich Wedemeyer , from whom the equestrian statue of King Albert at the Windberg monument came a few years younger . Paul Rößler created a mural behind it.

The Johanniskapelle is a registered cultural monument together with some tombs in the cemetery as part of a material entity .
