John A. Lafore

John Armand Lafore, Jr. (born May 25, 1905 in Bala Cynwyd , Pennsylvania , †  January 24, 1993 in Villanova , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1957 and 1961 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Lafore attended the public schools of his home country and then Swarthmore College until 1925 . He then studied until 1926 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . From 1932 to 1957 he worked as a car dealer in Philadelphia. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a comptroller in Montgomery County and chairman of the Lower Merion parish council . During World War II , he served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 . From 1950 to 1957 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania .

After the resignation of MP Samuel K. McConnell , Lafore was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , at the by-election due for the 13th seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on November 5, 1957. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1961 . In 1960 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Lafore worked for an aircraft company in Willow Grove . He was vice president of Day and Zimmerman in Philadelphia in 1965 and 1966 . He was also an avid dog breeder. From 1968 to 1971 he was Vice President and from 1971 to 1979 President of the American Kennel Club , which deals with dog breeding. He died on January 24, 1993 in Villanova.
