John Edvard Anderberg (born February 25, 1923 in Vallåkra , † April 8, 2012 ) is a former Swedish football player . The midfielder won the Swedish championship and Svenska Cupen double with Helsingborgs IF in 1941 .

Career

Anderberg began playing football in 1936 at Vallåkra IF before joining the youth team at Helsingborgs IF in 1938. There he made his debut at the age of 17 in the Allsvenskan and scored four goals in his first first division game. With 15 goals in 18 games, he made a significant contribution to the fact that the club won the championship before Degerfors IF and AIK .

However, Anderberg changed clubs and went to AIK after being mediated by his father, who wanted his son to go to Stockholm and had connections to the management of AIK. On the fifth day of the 1941/42 season he made his debut in the Allsvenskan for the new club. In the first competitive game in the newly opened Ryavallen , the team lost 1-0 at IF Elfsborg . A week later, Anderberg scored his first league goal for AIK. In the 4-2 win over Gårda BK , he scored the 3-1 goal. However, Anderberg remained unlucky during the season and only scored three goals in 14 appearances. Therefore, he decided at the end of the season to turn his back on the club and moved to the first division relegated Landskrona BoIS .

As second in the table behind IS Halmia , Anderberg narrowly missed the direct return to the Swedish elite series with his new club. A year later, the team became champions of Division 2 Södra and met in the promotion games on Billingsfors IK . After two wins, Landskrona BoIS rose again to the Allsvenskan. As the bottom of the table with only four wins this season, however, they were relegated straight away. The direct resurgence was only missed in the promotion games when they met again on Billingsfors IK and lost in the playoff. Only in 1948 succeeded the renewed ascent, which was followed by the immediate relegation. In the same year he was in the final of the Swedish Cup with his club, but he lost the final against his former club AIK 1-0. In 1952 there was even a crash into the third class. 1953 ended Anderberg, who completed a total of 31 first division games for Landskrona BoIS and was able to score eight goals, his active career.

Anderberg's cousin Gunnar Anderberg played with him at Helsigborgs IF and later at Landskrona BoIS in the Allsvenskan. His cousin Olle Anderberg was an important Swedish wrestler . He won several world and European championships and the gold medal at the 1952 Olympic Games .
