John Birch

John Birke (* 1981 in Toronto ) is a German author .

life and work

Birke grew up in Berlin and Stuttgart , studied philosophy in Leipzig and creative writing and cultural journalism in Hildesheim . In 1999 he received the Stuttgart Young Authors Prize for his play Die Lieten, and in 2003 he won the Drama Cologne competition with Die Nacht der Nights, concept phase . In the same year his play Open End was premiered. In 2004 Birke took part in the "Weekend for Young Dramatists" at the Münchener Kammerspiele , in 2005 in the authors 'workshop at the Burgtheater in Vienna and in 2006/07 in the authors' laboratory at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . In 2008 the short piece Kill Willy was performed at the Schaubühne on Lehniner Platz , Berlin. Birke is also staging a play at the Prosanova literature festival . In 2009 Birke's piece Pas de deux was adapted for Swiss radio. For Rowohlt Theater Verlag he has translated plays by Dennis Kelly , Patrick Marber and Mark Ravenhill into German. Birch lives in Berlin.

Live performances in the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt, the Alte Feuerwache Mannheim and in the music theater in the Gelsenkirchen district.
