John Caius
John Caius , actually John Keys , John Kay and John Kayse , Latinized John Caius (* 6. October 1510 in Norwich , † 29. July 1573 in London ) was an English anatomist and court physician, of the Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge with a donation.
Caius studied at the University of Cambridge until 1535 and received a Magister Artium . He traveled to Italy , studied at the University of Padua , was a student of Johannes Baptista Montanus and the important anatomist Andreas Vesal , and received his doctorate in medicine in 1541. Then from 1543 he visited Germany , his friend Conrad Gessner in Zurich , stayed in France and returned to England in 1545 . From 1547 he practiced as a doctor in London ; he treated the queens Maria I and Elizabeth I. In 1557 he donated 1,834 pounds sterling to enable the re-establishment of Gonville Hall . He taught there from 1558.
He wrote the first treatise on Britain's dogs .
