John Kevin Callahan (born December 23, 1953 in Brooklyn , New York , † March 28, 2020 in Rancho Mirage ) was an American actor , best known for his work as Edmund Gray in the daily soap All My Children .

Life

Callahan was born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley prior to his acting career before embarking on an acting career.

Callahan portrayed Leo Russell on the General Hospital day series from 1984 to 1985, then as Eric Stavros on the prime time series Falcon Crest from 1986 to 1988, and Craig Hunt on the California Clan day series from 1989 to 1991. His best-known role, Edmund Gray , played he was in All My Children from 1992 to 2005 . Callahan also played the role of Edmund , along with co-star Esta TerBlanche, on a 1997 episode of the Spin City sitcom entitled "My Life is a Soap Opera". From 2008 to 2010 he played Dr. Richard Baker in Days of Our Lives . Callahan and his co-star Eva LaRue hosted the Lifetime series Weddings of a Lifetime in 1995 and the 1997 Miss America pageant. Callahan appeared as a prominent podium participant in the 1990 television game show To Tell the Truth resumption .

Callahan was married to Linda Freeman from 1982 to 1994 and has two step-sons. On November 30, 1996, he married his All My Children colleague Eva LaRue on the island of Lanai , Hawaii . They have a daughter, Kaya McKenna, born in December 2001. They divorced in 2005. Callahan died on March 28, 2020 after suffering a stroke the day before ; he had been taken to Eisenhower Medical Center at Rancho Mirage and put on life support, but could not be saved.
