John Cox (born December 18, 1959 ) is an Australian special effects artist specializing in animatronic .

Life

Cox began his career in 1983 with the Australian musical Return of Captain Invincible or Who Is Afraid of America? . In 1995 he was responsible for the animatronics for the family film A Pig called Babe . This was followed by other major film productions such as Piggy Babe in the Big City , Pitch Black - Planet of Darkness and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles . Cox owns John Cox's Creature Workshop , which offers large-scale sculptures for use in film, television and amusement parks .

In 1996 he won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for A Pig Called Babe, along with Scott E. Anderson , Charles Gibson and Neal Scanlan . At the BAFTA Film Awards , however, Cox came away empty-handed in the Best Visual Effects category . In Australia, Cox received the Australian Film Institute Award and the Gemini Award .
