John Delves

Sir John Delves of Doddington Castle († May 4, 1471 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir John Delves was a son of Sir John Delves and Phillipa Hartcourt.

During the Wars of the Roses , Sir John stood loyal to the House of Lancaster and fought for Henry VI. and Margaret of Anjou at the Battle of Blore Heath , at the Second Battle of St Albans , at Towton and Tewkesbury .

After the Battle of Blore Heath, Sir John was commissioned by Margaret of Anjou in 1460 to take the prisoners of the battle, including Thomas Harrington , John Neville, 1st Marquess of Montagu and Thomas Neville , two sons of Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury , in Chester Guarding Castle .

When Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, Henry VI in the fall of 1470 brought back from the throne, Sir John Delves was one of his most energetic supporters.

Sir John received Henry VI during this brief second reign. between October 30, 1470 and April 10, 1471 several important offices. He became Sheriff of Staffordshire , Joint Warden of the Mint , Controller of the Customs and Treasurer of the Kings Household .

Sir John fell at Tewkesbury on May 4, 1471 and was buried in St Chad's Church in Wybunbury , Cheshire .

Marriage and offspring

Sir John Delves was married to Ellen Egerton.

They had the following children:

  • John (Sir) - fought with his father at Tewkesbury and was among those who were beheaded after the battle.
  • Margaret ⚭ Thomas Boteler (Butler)
  • Elizabeth ⚭ John Aston

the couple probably had other children.
