John Doubleday (sculptor)
John Doubleday (* 1947 in Langford near Maldon , Essex ) is a British painter and sculptor .
Life
John Doubleday studied sculpture at Goldsmiths College . He has been a busy artist since his first solo exhibition at the Waterhouse and Dodd Gallery , London in 1968.
Works
His cheerful sculptures of modern and historical contemporaries as well as literary figures can be found partly in several casts in public places. His most original work, a smoking Sherlock Holmes , was also placed in Meiringen near the Reichenbach Falls . Here, in Arthur Conan Doyle's novels, Sherlock Holmes was able to defeat his opponent Professor Moriarty for good.
