Competency accounting, competency diagnostics, competence development

Since the nineties, Erpenbeck has been developing the competence measuring instruments KODE and KODEX together with Volker Heyse and Horst Max as well as with Bernward Brenninkmeyer who the process WILL . Since 2003 he has been developing the digital version of the process in the project called Competenzia together with Steffen Buhr and Stefan Ortmann.

All three methods claim to be scientifically sound. These are procedural systems with various competency determination and development tools. They were developed with the aim of being able to be used practically as a basis for modern personnel development .

CODE

KODE (official spelling KODE®) is a procedure that measures competencies . CODE is the abbreviation for co mpetenz d iagnostik and - e evelopment and is under the personal and team development used.

The evaluation is based on four basic competencies, which are considered under both favorable and unfavorable (everyday or professional) situations:

  • Personal competence (P): Ability to be smart and critical of oneself, to develop productive attitudes, values and ideals
  • Activity and action competence (A): Ability to implement all knowledge and skills, all results of social communication, all personal values and ideals really strong-willed and actively
  • Technical and methodological competence (F): Ability to creatively cope with almost unsolvable problems with technical and methodical knowledge
  • Social and communicative competence (S): Ability to get together and deal with others on one's own initiative. To cooperate and communicate creatively

In a study in 2015/2016, Stiftung Warentest evaluated different processes with different model-theoretical bases, including KODE. Based on the scientific work of John Erpenbeck and Volker Heyse, the KODE method focuses on the four basic competencies P, A, F and S in order to derive individual personnel development measures based on this - if requested by the test subjects. It is precisely this specific reference to the basic skills P, A, F and S - without disclosing the specific test / evaluation matrix of this evaluation - that the result was rated as “medium quality”.

At the beginning of 2008, another procedure called KODES was published, which is to be aimed at the recognition and development of competencies of students and trainees.

CODE

KODEX (official spelling KODE®X, pronounced "KODE X"), the competency explorer, is used to explore company-strategic competency requirement profiles, requirement- or task-specific competency target profiles as well as the competence potential of employees and managers.

The procedure is based on a parameterized but standardized procedure model:

  1. Define strategy and competence requirements
  2. Define identification features
  3. Identify job and function groups
  4. Carry out a potential assessment
  5. Analysis and derivation of differentiated personnel development measures

The process is based on 64 (general) key competencies (e.g. loyalty, strength in acquisition, ability to work in a team), which are expressed in one of four quadrants of a two-dimensional matrix, the so-called "extended competence atlas" with regard to the four basic competencies (P, A, F, S) as well as their combinations (P / A, P / S ...) are arranged.

For each key competence there is a definition, 3 to 5 observable behavioral characteristics (on the basis of which the assessment by self and external assessors takes place), as well as indications for the identification of excesses. The process enables 360 ° feedback for individuals (e.g. for the purpose of career decisions) and teams (e.g. for organizational development ).

WILL

WILL is the abbreviation for Who te d iagnostik and - e evelopment. It analyzes so-called entrepreneurial values , i.e. the value structure of an entrepreneur or an entrepreneurial family and is intended to enable quantitative and qualitative statements about the four dimensions of pleasure, benefit, ethical and political values. Examples of characteristics are balance, joy, motivation (dimension pleasure values); (material) security, reputation (dimension benefit-values); Honesty, meaning, dignity, understanding (dimension ethical values), as well as honor, influence, power (dimension political values).
