Lutz von Rosenstiel

Lutz von Rosenstiel (born November 2, 1938 in Danzig ; † April 12, 2013 in Munich ) was a German professor of organizational and business psychology . His main focus was on work and organizational psychology as well as market and advertising psychology.

Life and accomplishments

Rosenstiel was born in 1938 as the youngest child of Helmuth von Rosenstiel (born August 12, 1900 in Lissa ; † January 1945 near Argenau ) and his wife Augusta, b. born of Conrad. He had two sisters: Renate (* 1930) and Felicitas (* May 20, 1935 in Lipie) and a brother Peter (* February 20, 1932 in Bromberg ). His grandfathers were the district administrators Arnold von Rosenstiel and Herbert von Conrad .

Rosenstiel studied psychology , business administration and philosophy first in Freiburg im Breisgau and later in Munich . In 1963 he made his diploma in psychology and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1974 he completed his habilitation in Augsburg at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

From 1974 to 1977 von Rosenstiel was scientific advisor and professor for business psychology at the University of Augsburg . From 1977 to 2006 he was head of the department for organizational and business psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. Between 1992 and 1999 he was Vice Rector of this university. In 1999 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in economics from the University of Rostock . In 2003 he became a member of the University Council of the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. In 2006 he took on a visiting professorship at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He also held seminars for commercial companies on topics such as performance orientation, motivation, and demotivation . From 2010 to 2012 he taught at the University of Hohenheim , where he represented the chair for business psychology in the wake of his former student Heinz Schuler .

Rosenstiel received the German Psychology Prize in 1993 and the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2000 . He died on April 12, 2013 after a serious illness in Munich.
