John Chedid

John George Chedid (born July 4, 1923 in Eddé ; † March 21, 2012 ) was Bishop of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles of the Maronite Church .

Life

After studying ten years in Rome, John Chedid was ordained a priest for the Apostolic Exarchate of the United States of America on July 16, 1952 . On September 1, 1955, he succeeded Thomas Aiken as the pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Lebanon Parish in Los Angeles. In 1969 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. Appointed Chaplain to His Holiness with the title of Monsignor .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Callinicum dei Maroniti on October 13, 1980 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn . The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and the whole Orient Anton Peter Khoraiche donated him the episcopal ordination on January 25, 1981 ; Co- consecrators were Francis Mansour Zayek , Bishop of Saint Maron of Brooklyn, and Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir , Auxiliary Bishop in Antioch . On November 12, 1978 he was appointed Choir Bishop of the Maronites.

On February 19, 1994, he was named first bishop of the newly established Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles eparchy . On November 20, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
