John Hargreaves (actor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John William Hargreaves (born November 28, 1945 in Murwillumbah , New South Wales , Australia , † January 8, 1996 ) was an Australian actor.

Life

Hargreaves was one of the best-known and sometimes most popular actors of his craft in Australia. In particular, his renunciation of an international career in favor of domestic fame made him popular. Unlike his compatriots Bryan Brown , Mel Gibson , Nicole Kidman or the New Zealander Sam Neill , he turned down engagements in the USA and switched to leading roles in Australian cinema and television productions, where he established himself in the acting elite over the years.

At the height of his career it became known that Hargreaves suffered from the immune deficiency AIDS , of which he died in 1996.
