Mad Dog (Mad Dog Morgan) is an Australian film drama from the year 1976 . Directed by Philippe Mora , of the screenplay based on the story Morgan and Bold Bush Ranger of Margaret Carnegie wrote.

action

The action takes place in Australia and begins in the 1850s. Irish-born gold prospector Daniel Morgan witnesses Chinese people living near him being massacred by racist European gold prospectors. He himself is arrested after a robbery and abused and beaten in prison. After his release, he takes revenge on his tormentors.

Morgan and the Aboriginal companion Billy commit a series of robberies; because of his behavior, Morgan is called the Mad Dog . In autumn 1865 the last battle against the law enforcement officers took place.

Reviews

On May 1, 2005, online critic Bill Gibron wrote on www.dvdtalk.com that the film was one of the most extraordinary films about outlaws; he seems to use the same postmodern irony as Two Bandits or Bonnie and Clyde . A character you could like fighting against the corrupt colonial power. The film is " atmospheric, almost experimental " and " a lost gem ". The cut is " feverish "; the film consists of over 150 shots.

The magazine TV direkt 25/2007 wrote that Mad Dog was a " beautiful film ballad ".

Philippe Mora as director and Bill Hunter were nominated for the Australian Film Institute Award in 1977 .
