William John "Bill" Hunter (born February 27, 1940 in Ballarat , Victoria , † May 21, 2011 in Melbourne ) was an Australian actor .

Life

Career

Bill Hunter began his career as a film and stage actor at the age of 17. His appearances on Australian television from the early 1960s made the character actor popular. His filmography features a variety of television films and series in which he has appeared. In German-speaking countries, Hunter became known through his appearances in the dance film Strictly Ballroom - They dance against all rules in 1992 and in the comedies Muriel's Wedding and Priscilla - Queen of the Desert in 1994 . In 2003 he gave the dentist his voice in the original English version of the successful animated film Finding Nemo .

Hunter is a legendary actor in his native Australia, having worked with every well-known Australian director over the four decades of his career . The artist Jason Benjamin won the Archibald Prize in the “Packing Room Prize” category in 2005 for a portrait of Hunter .

Private

Hunter was married to actress Rhonda Roberts from 1993 until his divorce in 1999 . He died of complications from cancer in a Melbourne hospice at the age of 71 .
