John Jorgenson

John Jorgenson (born July 6, 1956 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American guitarist and multi-instrumentalist.

Jorgenson received classical piano and clarinet training as a child. His father, who conducted Benny Goodman's orchestra, gave him the opportunity to work with the famous musician. He later performed in a jazz, bluegrass and swing group at Disneyland for eight years . During this time he learned to play mandolin, saxophone and guitar. For a while he was bassoonist with the Los Angeles Camerata .

In 1986, Jorgenson formed the country rock group Desert Rose Band with Chris Hillman , former bassist for The Byrds , Herb Pedersen , Bill Bryson , Steve Duncan, and Jay Dee Maness . For her project Running they were in 1988 by the Academy of Country Music as Touring Band of the Year award. This award was also the band in 1989 and 1990, also it was in those years for the Best Vocal Group Award of the Country Music Association nominations.

In 1992 Jorgenson left the Desert Rose Band and joined The Helleecasters as a guitarist (with Will Ray and Jerry Donahue ). Their debut album, The Return of the Hellecasters was founded in 1993 by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine as Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year chosen. Escape from Hollywood , the group's second album, was released in 1985. In the same year, Jorgenson worked with Elton John for the first time . The following year he recorded The Moon Is Rising with Rose Maddox . Other musical partners of the sought-after guitarist included Roy Orbison , Bob Dylan , John Prine , Bonnie Raitt , Dan Fogelberg and Michael Nesmith .

After 2000, Jorgenson turned to gypsy swing . He portrayed Django Reinhardt in the film Head in the Cloud and formed a quintet with guitarist Doug Martin , violinist Jason Anick , bassist Simon Planting and drummer Rick Reed .
