John Kuprionis

John Kuprionis (lit. Jonas Kuprionis ; * 1901 in Kiaušai , Wolost Anykščiai , † 1982 in Van Nuys, California ) was a Lithuanian forest scientist .

Life

In 1928, Kuprionis graduated from the Lietuvos žemės ūkio akademija . From 1929 to 1931 he worked at Miškų departamentas in Kaunas . In 1929, Kuprionis co-founded the Lietuvos miškininkų sąjunga . From 1929 to 1940 he was editor of the forestry journal Mūsų girios and employee of the newspaper Lietuvos aidas . From 1931 to 1934, Kuprionis established Panemunė Park in Kaunas Rajong Municipality . From 1934 to 1936 he was chief forester of the Dzūkija forests in Alytus . From 1940 to 1941 Kuprionis taught at the Žemės ūkio akademija and from 1941 to 1944 as a lecturer at the Vilniaus universitetas . There he headed the chair for forest science . In June 1941, Kuprionis headed the People's Commissariat for Forestry of Soviet Lithuania in Vilnius . In 1943 he worked as the chief forester at the Utena forestry in Anykščiai .

In 1944 he fled to Austria and then lived in Germany , from 1946 in the USA. In 1950 he graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters Degree in Forest Science . From 1951 to 1952 he ran the tree nursery in Texas . From 1952 to 1970 he taught as a professor at the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in Ruston . There he established the Cabinet of Forest Science (now the Forestry Department ), a nursery, and the Louisiana Tech Arboretum .
