John Campbell McLeod McPherson (* 1855 in the county of Dunbartonshire , Scotland , † March 14, 1934 ) was a Scottish football player and entrepreneur . McPherson, who played in the early days of football, won the Scottish Cup three times in the 1870s and made eight international matches for Scotland .

Career and life

John McPherson was born in Dunbartonshire , Scotland, in 1855 . The exact place of birth is not known. McPherson played in his football career at least from 1877 to 1885 for FC Vale of Leven of Alexandria , West Dunbartonshire . With the club he won the Scottish Cup three times in a row in the 1870s and reached the finals in 1883 and 1885. The outside runner was a fixture of Vale of Leven when the team had the most successful time.

On April 5, 1879, he completed his first of eight international matches for the Scottish national football team against England in a 4-5 defeat at the Kennington Oval in London. With the national team, McPherson won the British Home Championship twice .

Until the time of his death he was the manager of a brass foundry . He died on March 14, 1934.
