John Edward Merricks (born February 16, 1971 in Leicester , † October 15, 1997 in Castiglione della Pescaia ) was a British sailor .
successes
John Merricks took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta in the 470 dinghy . Together with Ian Walker , he finished second behind Jewhen Braslawez and Ihor Matwijenko and ahead of Hugo Rocha and Nuno Barreto . With a total of 60 points, they received the silver medal. In the same year they took third place at the European Championships and became vice world champions together in Porto Alegre .
On October 15, 1997, Merricks was killed in a traffic accident when the driver of a Land Rover, which included Merricks and Walker, lost control of his car.
