Ihor Hryhorowytsch Matvijenko ( Ukrainian Ігор Григорович Матвієнко ; born May 17, 1971 in Dnipro , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Ukrainian sailor .
successes
Ihor Matvijenko took part in the Olympic Games three times with Jewhen Braslawez in the 470 dinghy . In 1996 , the two of them were already established as Olympic champions with 40 total points in Atlanta before the final eleventh race of the regatta , thus winning the gold medal ahead of the British and Portuguese boats. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney they finished the regatta with 72 points in sixth place, four years later they were ninth with 106 points in Athens . At the world championships in the 470 dinghy, Matviyenko and Braslawez first won the bronze medal at Balaton in 2000 , before becoming world champions in Koper the following year .
