Paul Jeffrey Foerster (born November 19, 1963 in Rangely ) is a former American sailor .

successes

Paul Foerster took part in the Olympic Games four times . He first started in the Flying Dutchman boat class , in which he finished eleventh with Andrew Goldman on his Olympic debut in 1988 in Seoul . Four years later he finished second with Stephen Bourdow in Barcelona with 32.7 points overall and thus received the silver medal. After the Games, Foerster switched to the 470 dinghy and also secured the silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . Together with Robert Merrick , he finished second with 42 points behind Tom King and Mark Turnbull and ahead of Javier Conte and Juan de la Fuente . The 2004 Games in Athens were even more successful: with 71 points, he and Kevin Burnham held their own against the British Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield and became Olympic champion .

With Stephen Bourdow, Foerster was world champion in the Flying Dutchman in Tauranga in 1991 and in Cádiz in 1992 . At the Pan American Games , he first won the gold medal in Mar del Plata in 1995 in the boat class J / 24 . In the boat class Sunfish he won the bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2007 and the silver medal in Guadalajara in 2011

Paul Foerster studied at the University of Texas and graduated in 1987 with a degree in aerospace engineering . He later worked at Raytheon as an engineer.
