John Midgley

John Midgley (born before 1977) is a British sound engineer .

Life

Midgley began his film career in 1977. In 1984 he first worked for British television. In 1987 he worked on Clive Barker's horror film Hellraiser - The Gate to Hell and the sequel Hellbound - Hellraiser II . After working for television for much of the 1990s, he was hired to work on George Lucas ' 1999 science fiction film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace . In 2000 he was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Sound category together with Gary Rydstrom , Tom Johnson and Shawn Murphy . He later worked on the first three feature films based on the Harry Potter novels. For The King's Speech he received another Oscar nomination in 2011 with Paul Hamblin and Martin Jensen . In his third Oscar nomination in 2012 , he was able to win the award (with Tom Fleischman ) for the first time. Between 1994 and 2015, Midgley was also nominated seven times for the BAFTA Film Award in the Best Sound category; In 2012 he won the award for Hugo Cabret .
